Trying to cover CM in just a chapter was not easy and I agree I had to skip many details. Maybe a book on CM alone or just an online article about the complexity of the FIM CM permission structure. I”ll see what I can do.

Reporting is one of the most important enhancements. I”ld like to understand more about Synchronizing data from FIM to SCSM and the SCSM ETL process. Guess that modifying the reports will be mandatory for customization.

Agree that Reporting is very important news in R2. Customizing the Reports and customizing the schema handled by reporting and SCSM is quite a challenge. As more customers have implemented the feature and I have had a chance to collect some real life customization requests I will look at writing a separate article about it. For now you need to check TechNet, http://aka.ms/FIMReporting.

That”s the way to do it! To many fails to really think about the pre-reqs. Aliases, service accounts etc will prove important if you later to try to scale or migrate. Do not forget to use SQL aliases!

reporting and certificate management are the key areas that I am interested in. what are the extensibility points for certificate management, what is supported, and what is not supported, etc.

    Specific interests:
    • How to install and scale the solution
    • Implementation of User Management including Self-Service
    • Implementation of Group Management including Self-Service
    • Issuing Smart Cards using FIM Certificate Management
    • Troubleshooting FIM 2010 R2
Though the above are of interest, what would be more of interest is spending much more time on fully identifying and understanding provisioning/de-provisioning, specifically with regards to O365 integration, UAG, as well as concert with System Center Configuration Manager, Orchestrator and Service Manager for pinning all provisioning efforts to device provisioning, device control (CMDB efforts), helpdesk, and risk management efforts.

Seems to focus much on user management utilizing FIM Portal.
Maybe you should think about an edition more related to architecture and data model. Especially storing resources for provisioning, organization management models and so on.
Out of the box stuff usually will reach its limits fast and then the coding mess starts unless you have a clean data model and architecture. Using FIM as an IAM solution for the non MS world would be a nice fokus too.

I browsed through the Table of Contents and definitely this book has great contents. FIM CM, Managing O365 and Other Cloud Identities and Troubleshooting are most interesting parts of this book for me. I have being working with Identity Management since MIIS and always have had difficulty with troubleshooting which I hope this book will have a lot of information about.

    Hi all,
This book not only is a complete reference of FIM but also a developers guide to learn and implement FIM from scratch. With well explained definitions to in-depth examples, “All is Well” about this book. I am interested in FIM integration to Cloud services the most as most of the applications have moved to cloud. So why keep FIM waiting down the lane.FIM rocks and this book keeps it rocking.

Looks like a nice complete reference of FIM.
I am specifically interested in :
Chapter 8: Using FIM to Manage Office 365 and Other Cloud Identities
    Chapter 9: Reporting
    Chapter 11: Customizing Data Transformations
    Chapter 12: Issuing Smart Cards

I understand from the comment above by Kent that he had to skip the details of CM.
It is nice to see it covered high level in this book, a seperate book on the ins-and-outs of CM (as a part 2 ?) would definitely be an interesting add-on to this book.
